Wrap up to Excel 2010 Chapter 2 - Customizing the Ribbon.
Well, Hey! Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen. One of the great things that came back in Excel 2010.
It was gone in Excel 2007, was the ability to customize the interface.
It used to be in Excel 2007.
You couldn't add new items to the Ribbon unless you knew XML and wanted to get into Ribbon X in a bit of programming nice that this came back how for me?
I spent a lot of my time on either the Home tab or the Data tab.
One of those two. If I could take the left side of the home tab, and combine it with the right side of the Data tab as well as, Pivot Tables from the Insert Tab life would be perfect.
So, let me show you how easy that is to do.
I'm going to right-click the ribbon and say Customize the Ribbon.
Let's make this a little bit smaller so you can see what's going on here.
First thing we're going to do is we're going to add a New Tab.
So, I click on that New Tab and I'm going to rename that.
Call it MrExcel.
and then we will move that up.
So let's place the home tab with MrExcel, and then here's what we do.
We find things that we want to add to that New Tab.
So if we go to Main Tabs, and there's Home.
Alright! So, I'm going to choose Clipboard.
Add that!
Alignment add that. Number add that.
On the Insert Tab we want the Pivot Table command and then down here on the Data Tab.
We will get the right side of the Data Tab.
So, Sort & Filter, Data Tools and Outline.
Alright! This new group. We can actually get rid of that one.
So, I'll remove that.
All right! So, we have MrExcel 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 different groups. Click [ OK ] and there's our MrExcel Tab.
So, there's the Clipboard, Alignment Number and then Pivot Tables Sort & Filter and the other items if I make it small enough.
So, there you go very easy to create that.
Once you've created that customization you can import export, create a little file and export that for your co-workers they can import it then and everyone would have that same custom tabs.
So nice that they brought this back to excel 2010.
Of course, it's not quite as powerful as what we have excel 2003.
They took a giant step backward in excel 2007 button.
You'll love the ability to customize the Ribbon in Excel 2010.
I want to thank you for stopping by. See you next time for another netcast from MrExcel.
