Rev up to Excel 2010 chapter 6: Paste Options.
Well hey, one of the features in Excel 2010 is the new Paste Options menu and this gives us the faster ability to convert formulas to value. So, you see I have some formulas here. I wanna convert those to values. Now, before Excel 2010, my favorite method this and the fast, fast way to do. It was to go to the right edge of the data right click, drag right, drag left, let go and a brand-new menu there with copy here as values only. Fastest way to go. I think there's a faster way now. Though, so let's say we have these formulas we want to convert those to values. Do Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+v to paste. Well, this menu is popped up before but now says, "Hey you can open me with Ctrl." So, we press Ctrl one more time and you'll see there's a whole bunch of different options here and for each option there is a shortcut key. So, there you'll see it says values and then in parenthesis V. So, the method I use is to Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V to paste, Ctrl to open the menu again and then V to paste values.
Keeps my hands on the keyboard.
Faster way to to go. You can also, if you are a mouse person, you can right-click and copy and then right-click and right here in Paste Options there's values.
You can now pull down the whole thing off using just the mouse.
All right, now if you're going to start to use these, I actually created this little chart and I'll have to put it out at the WordPress blog along with this post, so you can print it out and hang it on your, on your wall next to the computer. This shows all the keyboard shortcuts and what each icon means. That's really, the hardest part to try and figure it out but when we get right down to it, the absolute fastest way to convert these formulas to values and this assumes that your keyboard look to the right side of the space bar, between the Alt and Ctrl.
There should be a key. There it's a key with a little menu with a mouse pointing to it. Some people call that the Context key or the Program key.
If you want to get right down to the absolute fastest way to convert formulas to values, I think it's this.
I think it's Ctrl+C to copy and then that Program key V will convert those formulas to values. The program key brings up the right click menu. We, then chooses values. Basically, this one right here. I use option so, Ctrl+C program V will convert those formulas to values, My new favorite way of converting formulas to values.
