Rev up to excel 2010, chapter 4, Backstage View.
Hey! Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast.
I am Bill Jelen.
Chapter 4, other rev up to Excel Book is about the new File menu in Excel 2010.
The File menu, as you may have heard me discussed before, the File menu is where they put all the commands that they call out commands, out commands, normally they think that you're working on a spreadsheet you choose themselves, try and figure out what you want to change.
Make the change and see the result, but, I think once you get to the File menu you're done working in the spreadsheet.
You're now sending that spreadsheet on to somebody or printing it or saving it or something like that, So, their contention is when you go to the File menu, they don't have to show you the spreadsheet anymore.
They're going to take up the whole screen with a couple of different panels here now a couple of things I like, the Print panel shows me both print preview as well as things that used to be on the print dialog as well as things that used to be on the page setup dialog.
So, everything you need in one place.
That's really really good also in recent, they still so show me the recent work books in the ability to pin an item to the list, like, we can do in excel 2007, but a new addition is recent places.
If you think about if you're working on next Year's budget, you're going to the next file in the budget 2011 folder, not necessarily file that you've already open.
So, this will let you get back to the folders that you've been working in and as you go through the various categories here all kinds of good information.
Now, the one frustration, then I have with Backstage view is, I always try and close it the wrong way. I mean look at this there's three X's here this X, this X, on the top right in this X, the red X, in the top right clicking any of those does not close Backstage View, itcloses of excel Workbook.
To close backstage view, you either have to press the escape key or just click on another tab to go back to your spreadsheet.
So, that's the one thing that I find a little bit frustrating if you are in Excel.
See I almost did it, almost did it and you have nothing open, so it's just closing.
And you go to the File menu you instantly go to recent now few people complain, while wait I want to be able to go to recent even when another file is open.
If you're one of those people go to the quick access toolbar on the right hand side here, and add open recent File now. You'll have one click to recent instead of having to go to File and then click this Okay, there you have, Thank you for stopping by. See you next time for another netcast by MrExcel.
