hi

i need to make either a spreadsheet or database to record the results of a league. all the players registered with the league need to be inputted along with the teams registered. also i need to be able to put the results of each match in and calculate the league table along with player rankings.

which do people think is better to use access or excel? excel is easeir to calculate stats but access is easier for data entry

all suggestions welcome

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
Quick rule of thumb:

Excel is a great number cruncher. It doesn't cross-correlate data too well. If you have to correlate more than 2 distinct categories / concepts / topics, use a database.
You have several concepts: Teams, Matches, Results. To this you could add Scorers, League Tables, etc. Access is the way to go.
You can always import data into Excel using Data | Get External Data, then you get the best of both worlds: Simple data entry in Access, analysis of categorised data in Excel.
