I basically want to do data analysis on class test results, attendance and homework on a single sheet then analysise it and print it off to Word in a mailmerge.

I can do this in Excel but people keep trying to put me onto Access every time I mention mail-merge - whats the vote here? All in favour of Excel say Yes! All in favour of Access say No!

Excel Facts

How to create a cell-sized chart?
Tiny charts, called Sparklines, were added to Excel 2010. Look for Sparklines on the Insert tab.
If you are more comfortable with Excel then use that plus there is nothing wrong with the mail merge process if you know how to use it. I personally would use Access for the task you described but then I know Access. If you are new to Access then stick to what you know, unless you have a bit of time on your hands and you want to learn about Access. Sorry for the vague answer....
Andrew. :)

Being new to both Excel AND Access, I can only go off what I am familiar with in Lotus, and that is if I needed to perform tasks as you descibed, I would always choose the database option (Approach in Lotus).
I am warming to these Microsoft products and I think both Excel And Access are very good, and I am learning all the time.
Aren't we all?
Great site for information and nice to see people giving their time to help others out.
