I've recently been toying around with Linux, and am considering the switch.
Anything is better than Windows 8, yuk!

I can run MS Office on Linux with a windows emulator, but I'm also considering switching to an OpenSource version of office. LibreOffice or OpenOffice (they're pretty much the same as I understand).
After initial paroosing around in LibreOffice, it seens to be a very capable replacement for MS Office.

Anyway, is anyone aware of an Excel Jeanie or similar type of product for LibreOffice/OpenOffice on Linux?

Thanks.

FYI,
Using Linux Mint 17 MATE and LibreOffice 4.2.3.3

sorry, I can't answer your question about Excel Jeanie but I'm curious about the use of LibreOffice and OpenOffice,
I assumed they were not compatible or at least not fully compatible with VBA. Is this true or have I got it wrong?

No, unfortunately that is true.
It does have it's own language for macros, but it's not VBA.
And I haven't really gotten into it that much yet.
