Excel Freezing when copying ANY data from large excel files

Hello,

Whenever I have a large excel file (23mb), and I try copying any data (even one cell), excel will instantly freeze and stop working (as soon as cntrl+c is pressed). I've tried it on multiple computers, and I've tried opening it as a csv and txt file (still same problem). My computer is only using approx 30% of the cpu power and 30% of the RAM. Any advice?

64 bit. also running windows explorer, chrome, gmail app called Shift, AIM, teamviewer

64 bit. not sure what you mean by more than 4gb?
