Hi All,

I have been asked to explain the following formula:

=IF($C22=$C21, "", AVERAGEIF($C:$C,$C22,D:D))

If anyone could break down what this formula is calculating, I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
=AVERAGEIF($C:$C,$C22,D:D)

This is averaging cell values in column D where the corresponding cell in column C is equal to C22.

=IF($C22=$C21, "", ...))

This is looking at cell C22 and checking if it is equal to C21, and if it is, the formula returns a blank. If it isn't, the AVERAGEIFS calculation is performed.
