Hello,

I have an Excel File (spreadsheet A) that is 60mb, saved in the binary format, as an xlsx file, it is 156mb. that file is fine.

However, I have another spreadsheet (B) that has (currently) a total of 15 formulas that link in to Spreadsheet A, and it is causing the file size of spreadsheet B to be huge and unresponsive when trying to save.

So my question is, does the size of a file that a formula refences determine the size of the file that formual is in?

Thanks,

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
No, there shouldn't be any correlation. If you remove those formulas, does your file size shrink?

What are the formulas? Simple links, or functions returning arrays?

simple sumifs and countif formulas, looking into 5 different tabs within the 156mb file

So you have 15 cells with those formulas in, and the file size balloons to what size?

about 26mb, I tried starting from scratch in case the file had been corrupted, but the same issue occurred. I've had to use macros to combat it, and save as values rather than formulas

That doesn't sound normal to me at all. Can you post the actual formulas here?
