I have a file that was working fine a few days ago, but now if i click queries and connection and click a query it crashes. If I go data show query editor that opens, but if i refresh a data preview it crashes. I can open other similar files and all fine. I have done a compelte reinstall of Office and rebooted. I have tried an older version of the file from Dropbox still crashes.

I have not editted the code since it was last working a few days ago. Any clues what could be causing a file specific issue or how you trace what is causing it?

Much appreciated any advice
Mike

How to calculate loan payments in Excel?
Use the PMT function: =PMT(5%/12,60,-25000) is for a $25,000 loan, 5% annual interest, 60 month loan.
While I don't have any idea what is causing your crash, having been through the 'mystery crash' & corrupted file scenarios many times over the years, my advice to you (assuming the workbook is important) is that you take steps to back up your data now , while you can still access it, before messing around further with the file.

One thing you might try since the problem does not appear to require macro functionality to test, is to save the workbook to a new file, type .xlsx (to strip out the macros). Then repeat your query tests to see if the crash repeats.

If the crash goes away, then with the original workbook, export all code and userforms, then save the file as an .xlsx. Then re-import them to your new crash-free WB and save that as a new .xlsm file. Good luck.

It wasnt a macro file file, but does have some macros in it that arent being used. so I'm using at it as an xlsx and just saved it as a xlsm for sort of same reason you suggest.
