Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Fast way to fill blank cells with value from above in Excel.

In Podcast 2367, Bill Jelen demonstrates a quick method to fill down blank cells in Excel with the value from the cell above in just 11 keystrokes. Deepak's data consists of 50 rows and four columns with numerous blank cells that need to be populated with values from the cells above.

Here are the 11 keystrokes to accomplish this:
1. Select the data.
2. Press Ctrl+G or F5 to open the Go To dialog.
3. In the Go To dialog, press Alt+S to select "Special."
4. Inside "Go To Special," press Alt+K to select "Blanks."
5. Press Enter to confirm the selection. This will highlight all the blank cells in the selected range.
6. Type an equals sign (=) to indicate the start of a formula.
7. Use the Up Arrow key to reference the cell above.
8. Press Ctrl+Enter to fill all the selected blank cells with the value from the cell above.
At this point, the blank cells are filled with formulas that reference the cells above. To convert these formulas to values, follow these additional steps:
9. Press Ctrl+* to select the entire data range.
10. Press the right-click key (if available on your keyboard) followed by the V key. If you don't have the right-click key, use Shift+F10 and then V.
This will replace the formulas with their calculated values, effectively filling the blank cells with the values from above.

Bill concludes the video by emphasizing the simplicity and efficiency of this method, making it the shortest podcast ever, and encourages viewers to like, subscribe, and ring the bell for more Excel tips.

Podcast 2367. Fill down in 11 Keystrokes.
Hey this is Bill Jelen from MrExcel.
Deepak has 50 rows, four columns with a lot of blank cells.
He wants the blank cells to have the value from above.
Deepak, I had to do this video because you would not believe it is only 11 keystrokes.
First select the data.
Then Ctrl+G or F5 for Go To. I press F5.
In Go To dialog, Alt+S to select Special.
Inside of Go To Special, Alt+K for Blanks.
Enter for OK.
That selects all of the blank cells. That is great.
Equals sign. That says to Excel that we are starting a formula.
Up Arrow says the formula is the cell above me.
Ctrl+Enter and all of those blank cells are filled with the value from above.
Dallas Dallas Dallas.
Here there is a big run of blank cells that all say carrot.
You think we are done, but you want to convert those formulas to values.
Ctrl+* selects everything.
Ctrl+C to Copy.
On my keyboard, I have a right-click key.
I press that key and the V.
If you don't have the right-click key, then Shift+F10 and V.
So, right-click, V.
We are done.
Shortest podcast ever.
Like. Subscribe. Ring the Bell.
Thanks for stopping by. We will see you next time for another podcast from MrExcel.
