is it possible in excel 2013 to have a chart with 2 value axis, 1vertical and 1 horizontal, to allow to plot points as coordinates and then join up as a line.

hope that makes sense, thanks

Hi Dave,

When you create a chart you can choose type "X Y (Scatter)". It works best when you have two columns of data, X and Y coordinates respectively. There are multiple options to join them with line, curve the line, etc... is that what you are looking for?

thanks I will have a try. What I'm trying to do is plot cost on the horizontal axis and a % on the vertical axis. I want to be able to insert a series of costs with a corresponding % eg £3456, 5%, £5436, 7% but with the ability that one (or more) of the cost figures will have two different %s (and therefore a vertical line) eg £6458, 8%, £6458 9%

Hiya, by default you either connect all dots or non of them, you could turn off/on the connecting line between specific points one by one manually....

A workaround with no VBA would be to use the chart conditional formatting trick, have two datasets for the same chart, one that has your £ values with a single % and that series would not have connector lines, and another set where you note £ values with double %, that series would have connector lines.

When displayed on the same chart this will look like it was a single series with vertical connections...
