Hi,

What I have is a bar chart, dates on the x-axis and $ on the y-axis

But I have additional data. I've got a "payment date" that occurs once, and I want to add an arrow, or a pointer on the chart indicating that a payment is occuring at that date.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

Thanks, Zylo

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
This could be a solution:
Click on the Drawing Toolbar, then click on the arrow, then draw an arrow of the length and direction you want. Now, just grab the arrow and place it on your chart, where ever you want it.

Let us know if this works for your.

Hi, thanks for your reply RalphA

However the issue is that I'm linking it to a database, and there are many differnet possible combinations of charts.

I need to be able to automatically/dynamically put the arrow in at the correct place.

I wish I could help you in this, but, I don't have enough knowledge for it! Hopefully, someone else will be able to help you.

how do we know, of a given range of dates (which you are plotting on the x axis), which one is the payment date? describe your data in more detail & give an exmple.

Thanks very much for your help guys, sorry, have not logged on in awhile to reply.

Here is a little more detail:
the payment date is not determined by any particular rule. But I will know the date and can mark it as the payment date.

For example, here is some data. Date is on the x-axis, $ on the y-axis

(Date,$)
(1Jul05 , 2)
(2Jul05 , 1)
(3Jul05 , 3.4)
(4Jul05 , 3)
(5Jul05 , 8)

The payment date is 3Jul05. I would like to type this date somewhere, and the chart to dynamically add a straight line, or an arrow, or a change in colour, or some indication that a payment has occured on this date.

Thankyou again

simplest way:

add a second series to the plot that is blank except for the date you want highlighted. In this cell, put the same value as for the other series. select the second series & format as you want...the data area would look like the example below:
security.xls
ABCD
1DateNum1Dummy
21/01/20011
32/01/20012
43/01/200133
54/01/20014
65/01/20015
76/01/20016
87/01/20017
98/01/20018
109/01/20019
