Excel automatically adding caret to cell text

Does anyone know why Excel is adding a caret to the beginning of cell text? For example, when I type in "Hello World" into a cell, hit enter, and click on that cell again it becomes "^Hello World" - This makes copying the text (not the cell) difficult.
