Is it alright to ask for any excel alternative on this forum? My Dell Latitude C640 notebook has only 512MB ram and it has been dropped several times. So much so that when I install programs like MS Office, it complains of insufficient memory. If an alternative is not allowed, please do say so and I will ask elsewhere.

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
I haven't yet. I have heard about that but they say that is a MSWord alternative. Can it be used to mimic Excel?

Alternatives:-

1. Install Excel as a stand-alone (without Office)
2. Try MS Works - less bulky than Office but no VBA
3. Try Open Office - it is VBA compatible but with some issues (and it's free)

If you believe in open source, try Libre Office rather than OOO.

Stop dropping your laptop and it will work better.
I'm not so sure it will work better, but it may stop getting any worse.

The best option may be to drop it again (in the bin) and get a new one!

You could probably pick up some additional memory for 20-40 USD (I have no idea what current prices are). Memory is very easy to install. I wouldn't run Windows on less than 1024 MB.

Also, keep in mind that if you use Open office, you can't use VBA and macros from Excel as they aren't compatibile!
I'd suggest Paul - H's Excel Instal with Xenou's memory add.
