Save Often
If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
Hi Jega,

This is just a theory, but my guess is that if you paste too much data into Excel without saving you will run out of memory. I think that saving releases RAM/virtual memory associated with updates, converting it to disk memory. I would recommend saving after every so many pictures are inserted, the frequency of saves dependent on your available memory and the size of the pictures. I don't know how Excel stores pictures internally, but I know that Word and Powerpoint do this very inefficiently because it stores jpeg, tiff and gif pictures in uncompressed form which may make them many times their original size--a 200 KB picture may become over a MB in size inside the file.

I would also suggest that if your pictures are higher resolution than is necessary that you downsample them to the smallest acceptable number of pixels before inserting them into Excel. You can downsample them in almost any image-editing utility, including MS Photo Editor.
