I've been working with ERP data in the past few months. Lately, Excel seems to be hanging with the processor usage in the bottom right corner slowly increasing. There are also intermittent white screens and (Not Responding) messages. Sometimes it recovers, sometimes it doesn't and I have to kill the program.

CPU usage will slowing creep to 100%.

Two tables today:

1 – 22213 records (8 columns)
1 – 500,615 records (22 columns)
File size – 49,993KB

Running Office 2013 Professional 32-bit. 15.0.4971.1002
Intel Xeon E5-1607 @3.00 Ghz
32 GB ram

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
I've had this a bit, and it's usually conquered with more RAM. Though 32GB for a 50mb file shouldn't give you that many issues.

Go to the sheets and press ctrl+end to find the last cell. Does the last cell contain data or is this the last row of the unused sheet?

I went thru each worksheet and did find 1 table that showed the last cell to be at the very bottom. It was corrected and that seemed to help some.

I still have the Calculating: (4 PROCESSOR(s)): XX% starting at 0% and climbing 1% at a time to 100% every time I try to do something.) That takes about 60 seconds.

I no longer get the white screens and the NOT RESPONDING issue, but the recalculation time is painful. Perhaps that's just part of having a large file? Manual recalc might be my solution.

Thanks for the help!
