I am trying to create a chart, I can see it in my mind, but I'm sure I don't know all the correct jargon to describe it. The x-axis will be analytes (F, Cl, Br, etc) and the y-axis will be a concentration value. I can do this with a line chart. The problem I'm having is that each series will have multiple data points per analyte. So Series 1 (ex, tap water) will have 6+ data points for F, Cl, Br, etc; Series 2 (ex, distilled water) will have 6+ data points for F, Cl, Br, etc...
Is this possible to do?

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Re: Excel 2013 Chart Help

Hi and welcome to the MrExcel Message Board,

I sounds as if you need a Line Chart with multiple lines.

So, put the "analytes" in column A then add a column for every series you need to chart.

If that is not what you want then I will need a bit more of a description.

Re: Excel 2013 Chart Help

Any line chart I make can only have one data point per series per analyte. How do I do multiple data points?

Perhaps you want an XY scatter.

No, but you can mock them up using a dummy series with data labels.

Re: Excel 2013 Chart Help

An example chart would be nice.

If you Google "analytes", say, and select images is there a chart in there that you would like to replicate? If so, could you post a link so that we can see what is required.

Thanks,

If it's always the same categories, you could simply use textboxes for those labels.

Re: Excel 2013 Chart Help

Try organizing your data like this:

Book1
ABCDEFGHIJK
1PondLakeSea
2ABCABCABC
3Ca383627312818213
4Mg6810773417
5Na175110182184110
6
7CaMgNa
8PondA38617
9B36851
10C271010
11LakeA31718
12B28721
13C1838
14SeaA244
15B111
16C3710
Sheet1

Either the top or the bottom arrangement will work.

Select the data block and insert a line chart. Select the chart, bring up the right click menu and choose "Select Data...". Click the button that says "Switch Row/Column".

Now you have to do your formatting–removing lines, changing symbols, correcting the legend, etc.
