Hi guys, encountering something really weird, I have a workbook that was saved in .xls format (97-2003) and whenever I add some borders under text and bold some text as soon as I save/close and reopen all the format I made has disappeared? Anyone ever have this happen to them?

What makes this ever weirder is that there are other sheets in the workbook with Borders and Bold text but if I delete the borders and Bold Text and re-add then after the save/close and re-open the format is all gone as well?

Not sure what to do to fix this, and unfortunately I can't upgrade the file to .xlsx or .xlsm because the original user can't open the file because of such an old MS Office install.

Excel Facts

Quick Sum
Select a range of cells. The total appears in bottom right of Excel screen. Right-click total to add Max, Min, Count, Average.
I don't know why it happens. However, you may try save the .xls file to .xlsx format, save, and then save as .xls format. The new .xls file may be will save the changes.

I can't, the file is .xls because it has macros in it. Saving to .xlsx will remove all the code from the file. I did however try saving as .xlsm and then converting back to .xls but it looses formatting once its back to.xls.

I never met this problem. Could you sent me your excel file, you can delete all contents and code in the workbook.
