Excel 2010 question

Just a couple general questions. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Excel 2003 fanatic, and I've developed several workbook applications that have a fair amount of VBA coding. But I'm also running up against the increasing need to support users who have Excel 2007.

1. Would it be better to go with Office 2010 rather than Office 2007? Is there enough similarity between the two that once I learn 2010, I will also be comfortable with 2007? (I got behind the 8-ball on 2007, I don't want to make the same mistake with 2010).

2. Can Office 2007/2010 co-exist peacefully with 2003 on the same machine?

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Tushar Mehta related some basic instructions on installing side by side versions of Office here (I'm sure I saw another thread on this in the last few weeks too but it escapes me where):

The general advice is to be sure to install office versions in order from oldest to newest (if you are installing more than one). Outlook is an exception, as noted above.

I would go with 2010, but offhand I'm not yet aware of any incompatibilities with it and 2007 (well, there are new formulas but that's rather an obvious one). Whatever incompatibility exists, I'm sure you can avoid them, just as with 2007 and 2003 - plus now both versions are solidly in the OpenXML file formats, using RibbonX, have new colors and all the bazillions of cells. You'll feel pretty comfortable going from 2010 to 2007 (if you aren't bothered by the disappearing, reappearing file menu).

I think I've used most versions of Excel including 2010.

I've currently got 2000 and 2010 installed on and the only real problem I've had is sometimes files are being opened in the wrong.

This is no big deal, probably something to do with file associations.

But I can't really be bothered changing things (I know I should) because everything else, including code works fine.

Just need to teach myself not to have multiple versions open at the same time and leaving up to windows to decide which one to use when opening a file.:)

I always set up a virtual machine for other versions. My laptop has 2003, 2007 and 2010 and I don't have conflicts or issues with file associations.
The only issue I have is with Access. If you try to open a database in the main desktop from the virtual machine you will have problems; in that case I just copy the DB to the virtual machine.
