I have Excel 2010 (32 bit), Windows 64 bit. Power Query and Power Pivot add-ins installed.
My co-worker has the same Excel and Windows, but does not have the add-ins.

I created Power Pivot pivot tables and inserted slicers to control the dashboard. Everything works fine for me (no error messages). However, I sent the file to my co-worker and she tries to click the slicers it gives this message "Initialization of the data source failed." Can someone please advise on why it doesn't work on my co-workers computer?

Thanks!

Excel Facts

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
AFAIK, your co-worker(s) will have to install the add-in as well.

Ok - will ask my co-worker to install the add-ins as well then test it. Will hopefully repost my status back soon.

Thanks!

My co-worker still working to get the add-ins. My 2nd co-worker has Excel 2016 and when he clicked the slicers he received the following error message: "This workbook has a Power Pivot data model created using a previous version of Power Pivot add-in. You'll need to upgrade this data model with Power Pivot for MS Excel 2016"

Do I need to upgrade my Excel 2010 Power Pivot add-in so that my dashboard works on my 2nd co-workers Excel 2016? Where can I get the latest version of the add-in because about a month ago I thought I updated to the latest version?

No, I think he will have to upgrade the model to be able to use it, regardless of you having the latest version for 2010. As long as he doesn't need to share it with you, that shouldn't cause an issue. If he does, then you really need to be on the same version of Excel, as far as I know (I can't swear to that as we all use the same version at work).

I thought Power Pivot was already built into Excel 2016? How does he need to update the model in Excel 2016?

Because you built the model in an earlier version.

Ok you confused me. So I need to update my Power Pivot add-in for Excel 2010 to the latest version then it should work on my co-workers Excel 2016?

No, I don't think that will help. A model created in 2010 has to be upgraded to work in 2016. If you need to work with the same file, you both need to be using the same version of Excel.
