I'm at a loss with a particular error that one of my users have been getting for months now.
Each and everytime she opens up a large worksheet with mutliple tabs, closes and then opens another spreadsheet she gets the following error messages:

1) Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications. Continue without undo?

2) Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications.

3) Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
  • To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need (this doesnt work)
  • To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving too. (there's almost 150GB free on a 250GB hard drive)

The error seems to occur randomly.
would the fact that this work book is password protected have to do anything with it?

The machine has 16GB of Ram and quad core processors.
She had Excel 2010 64 bit but also seems to be happeing after re-image and installing Excel 2013 64 bit)
Seems to only be happening with her machine. I even reimaged the machine thinking it might've been malware or some inherent excel corruption (tried the MS repairs, following MS articles: How to Troubleshooting Available Resources errors in Excel

Even went as far as to installing a memory cleaner utility but no avail.
The worksheets she uses do not have any complex macros but do contain some random formulas.

Memory usuage never exceeds more than 4GB (running windows 7 64 bit, firefox is open with only 4 tabs, and mainly working in excel only.)

Excel Facts

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
