I am reviewing a workbook forwarded to me by a colleague and he has complained that his Name Manager dialogue box won't open when he clicks that button on the Formulas ribbon. He sent it to me, and I have the same problem. I click on the button and the cursor turns to an hour glass for two seconds and then nothing happens.

I've tested the Name Manager in other workbooks on my machine and it works like a champ, but just not in this one. I've checked if the workbook or any of its worksheets are protected, and it's not. Anyone have an idea of what's going on here?

Possibly a corrupt file?

What format is the workbook in? (.xls, .xlsx, . xlsm etc)
How big is the workbook?
How many sheets does it have?
How many names are likely to be in existence?

Try to copy each sheet from the workbook into its own new workbook. Try the name manager on each one of the new workbooks as you create them. A corrupt sheet will often fail to copy across to a new workbook.

I was thinking a corrupt file was a good possibility from the get go. To answer your questions:
1) .xlsx
2) 2.5MB
3) 62 sheets
4) An exorbitant amount of named ranges (probably in excess of 200)

I tried your sheet copying test and the files to which I copied the sheets had no trouble opening the Name Manager. It listed that ridiculous amount of named ranges and allowed me to delete them (all were #REFs in the new sheets) in one fell swoop.

I didn't do this with each sheet, but your test leads me to believe that the file itself is corrupt. I'll communicate the bad news to my colleague. Thanks for your help!
