When I download an excel 2007 file, such as xmls, from our web server, it saves the file as a zip file which, when opened with WINZIP, has several files inside. How do I open the file as the excel worksheet that it was before the download?

Excel Facts

Convert text numbers to real numbers
Select a column containing text numbers. Press Alt+D E F to quickly convert text to numbers. Faster than "Convert to Number"
What are the "several files" that are included in the zip? Isn't one of them the Excel file?

No. Excel 2007 divides the file into several pieces for compatibility. That much I know. Unfortunately, when downloading from some servers, the files are put individually into a zip file. None will open the worksheet and I don't know how to put them back together.

When you try to open any of them, all you get is a web page similar to:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
- <Relationships xmlns="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/package/2006/relationships">
<Relationship Id="rId3" Type="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships/extended-properties" Target="docProps/app.xml" />

<Relationship Id="rId2" Type="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/package/2006/relationships/metadata/core-properties" Target="docProps/core.xml" />

<Relationship Id="rId1" Type="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/officeDocument/2006/relationships/officeDocument" Target="xl/workbook.xml" />

</Relationships>

I have no clue. Is it splitting the files? What do the contents of the zip file look like (file listing, extensions, etc.)?

Formally Excel 2007 file is a zip archive.
Therefore after downloading just rename ZIP filename extension to XLSM one.
And you can load such renamed file into Excel.
