Excel 2007 - Chart 2000 data points

I need to chart over 2000 data points that are quantified in 4 catagories over a time frame of 24 hours. Or over 12 hours. I would like to see the time frame over the x axis and the data points plotted when they occured over that time span. I would like them individually color coded by their catagory. So, the y axis could be the catagory.
The thought behind this is to show when volume is high and when volume is low over a 12 or 24 hour time span. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
