When I enter text in a cell, everything looks fine until I exit the cell, when random line breaks/gaps suddenly appear in the text. When I go back into the cell, everything reverts to normal until I exit again. Restarting the computer doesn't help. The only way I can get get rid of the line breaks/gaps is by retyping the entire text from before the break. I have for the most part been copy-and-pasting from MS Word. Help would be appreciated.

I actually just stumbled on the answer myself. It turns out pasting from MS Word does indeed cause these problems in Excel 16.21—and formatting in the text is the culprit. Smart quotes and apostrophes, and long dashes of the kind I used in the previous sentence are causing the line breaks and gaps. When I remove the formatted text, the problem disappears. This wasn't an issue in the previous versions of Excel I've used, though I suspect that certain quirks I experienced may have been caused by the formatting without my knowing it. Anyway, hope this info will be helpful to others.
