Errror message

Hello everyone i need a small piece of code. for example in column c i have alpha numeric characters like "PLN5555" so i need a code that prompts me error message when i type alpha numeric characters less than or greater than 7characters.
any one can help me out in this. thanks in advace
 

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
You can use Data Validation to produce an error message when a value is entered that is not 7 characters.

Highlight column C > Data Validation > Allow: Text length > Data: equal to > Length: 7

Just note that this will allow any string of 7 characters including special characters such as -, ?, & etc.
