I have a table that has a field that is a List box tied to another table. (I used the lookup Wizard to create linked the field.)

When I go to that field in datasheet view, the list is correct and shows the proper list. But when I select anything I get an error.

The Value you Entered doesn't Match the number data type in this column
Enter New Value
Convert the data in this column to the Text data type

I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. The help option isn't helping any. It want me to change the format, but I cannot do that since I used the Wizard - which automatically formats the field as Number

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
What is the data in the list box?
What is the value are trying to put into the destination table?

The data that populates the listbox is just that - a list of values.
The field you are populating is something else - whatever you choose must be compatible with the data type of *that* field.

How many fields does this "other" table you are looking up?
I have seen things like this happen for the table has multiple fields, and the one they are displaying the the List Box may not be the field that is bound in the table.

The source table has 5 fields. When I used the wizard I chose two ( and it added the ID AutoNumber).

I think it is probably linked (bound) on the Primary Key field, which I am guessing is your AutoNumber field.

However, I think it would be helpful to see the fields you have chosen, what their data types are, and exactly how you set up the List Box (and what the data type of that field is).
Can you walk us through all of that detail?

I went to the Property Lookup Tab, Changed it from List to Combo and now it works.
