'm getting Error: Cannot group on Fields selected with '*'. when trying to use sum query....
Why is this happening?

For what it's worth, I've never used any method to stop events in Access ... I guess in fact I don't think it's possible. In any case, there's no calculation setting in Access.

Excel Facts

Excel motto
Not everything I do at work revolves around Excel. Only the fun parts.
Norie, both the query works perfect!!! Thanks a lot!

Xen, thanks again for getting back...
Bout running the query again...so there is no auto calc.
I found something called ReQuery what is that?
Do we use that for re calculating my query which is already runned?

Thanks again.

You only really 'run' a query once.

Why do you want to recalculate it?

Are you changing the values in the table it's based on?

Because I am changing my critiria in the form and runing my query again...and i want query to run again when "RUN QUERY" button is clicked and my critirias are changed in my form comboboxes.

The data in table will still be the same though...

And when i run my query it opens up as table/range....
can i not open the query but just open it hidden or some way where userswont know that Query is runed?

Thanks again Norie:)

What are you doing with the results of the query?

I really don't think you've got the idea of how Access works and what you would use it for.

If you just want to perform a calculation on some data based on criteria perhaps you should just use Excel.

think of the query as going to google ans searching for "access sql"
it will show you a list of results,
now let's say you leave your computer on and those search results up and you walk away and go on vacation

then you come back 8 days later and look at your computer

is it possible the search results have changed ?
yes, but you won't see the changes until you refresh the web page
if you look at the page without refreshing then it will show exactly the same results as when you left, even though the results may be different
so you have to "requery"
