Embedded spreadsheets within MS Word

I am producing a presentation in MS Word of which we require a great deal of embedded MS Excel spreadsheets. The spreadsheets contains very simple sum formula (just adding small columns of data). This can work fine but often the embedded spreadsheets become corrupt and therefore can not be used which is very frustrating because we have to start again.

Also when printing the documents some of the embedded spreadsheets often print oddly with strange formatting (jumbo font etc) even if it looks ok on the screen, while the Word sections print fine.

I am not sure if this is a Word problem or an Excel problem but either way can anyone help or suggest a better way to produce our presentations bearing in mind that we require multiple page orientation. We have tried so many different programmes at the moment this is the best way we have found so would be very grateful for suggestions.

Thanks
