Embedded Spreadsheet Fill?

I have an excel spreadsheet in which I have embedded into a word.doc. The user can open the word.doc and click on the embedded spreadsheet to alter the contents of the order form. However, it looks like the form has a grey fill in certain cells which are not there when I open the spreadsheet. Why does this happen and how do I correct this?
