Emailaddress automatically changes cell format to 'Hyperlink

I've got a cell in a table which requires users to enter an email address.
I have given the cell a format of my own design "Richard_FreeTextEntry" which I wish to retain.

However when I enter an email address into the cell, Excel identifies that the text entered is an email address and automatically converts the format of the cell into it's own basic format 'Hyperlink' (which if clicked will open your email package e.g. Outlook)

Any ideas how to disable this auto format change to preserve my orignal cell fomat type.

Thanks in advance

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.

In Excel. go to Tools>AutoCorrect Options>AutoFormat as You Type and untick the first tick box.
