Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, I'm Bill Jelen.
Basically, you start out with massive amounts of data, and say “How we're going to analyze this?” Well, let's fire up a Pivot table and see if we can solve this problem!
Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, I'm Bill Jelen.
This is an exciting day for me, today we're launching a new bit of software, it's called Easy-XL!
Now, that's E-A-S-Y - X-L .com , check it out, you can download it for free 30-day trial, and it adds about 50 new features to Excel.
These features are primarily aimed at people who have to do a lot of data analysis with Excel.
So, for example, here I have some invoice data, see they gave me a customer number, salesperson number, product number, they didn't bother to fill in the descriptions for any of that.
Luckily I have a worksheet here that maps customer number to customer name, OK.
Now I could, of course, do a bunch of VLOOKUPs, and if you're comfortable doing VLOOKUPs, that's probably what you would do.
But what if you're not comfortable doing VLOOKUPs, watch how easy this is.
I want to merge sheets, I want to merge this invoice data with the customer data based on customer number, go grab the contact name, address, city, state, click Finished.
That is a lot easier than writing the VLOOKUPs, fills in the customer data, so I have a brand new worksheet now, the invoice date on the left, customer name on the right.
I could do the same thing for sales person and product number to get all of that information in.
Now, let's say that I like to break this out by month, well I've invoiced dates, but I don't necessarily have that broken out by month.
Again, I could use =MONTH and I had a new column in, OR Columns, Split Columns, I want to take that invoice date, and break the Year and Month into a new column.
I could even do Day Of Week if I needed to see Monday VS Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, click Finished.
There I have a brand new column for month, brand new column for year.
Now, maybe I want to see each of these months in their own sheet.
Alright, so we'll split sheet based on a group, and we'll do it based on InvoiceDateMonth, copy each group to a separate sheet, click Finished, and in a few seconds I'll have 12 new worksheets, one for each month of the year.
Look how easy that is, and that's just scratching the surface of what's available at Easy-XL.
So, check it out, go out to easy-xl.com, free 30-day trial, check it out.
If you have to do a lot of data analysis, and A: you're uncomfortable to VLOOKUPs, this is definitely for you.
B: if you can already do VLOOKUPs in your sleep, like I can, you'll find that this is a faster way to go, and you'll say “Well OK, yeah, I could do the VLOOKUPs, or in a couple of seconds in a couple clicks, I could have Easy-XL do it.” So check it out, cool utility, easy-xl.com!
