Drop down Text selection to add Numerical value to its cell

On my worksheet in column D i would like to be able to do the following.
D3 - D29 is where it would work for.
I wish to be able to select a text value BUT then have a numerical value put in the cell.
Makes sense ?

Example.

In cell D5 the user clicks the dropdown.
He sees the following Text values,ASDA MORRISONS TESCO BUDGENS etc etc.
He makes his selections thus being TESCO

Now in cell D5 the user will see the Numerical value of 5 has been entered.
The numerical value of 5 represents the mileage to TESCO

If the drop down isnt the best way then please advise so i can try it.

WHy not do both: Have the user select TESCO and in an adjacent cell pull in that 5 value. You can use the XLOOKUP function for that.

Can you advise how i would have the store in column B & the mileage in column D

Please see screenshot & advise when i make store selction the mileage isnt entered in the cell.

change to 14 to a 2 in for lookup

your formlua l should be =IFERROR(VLOOKUP($B14,$F:$G,2,FALSE),"")
