Dragging Cell Down & Blank Excel

I have two questions:

1) When I highlight a cell and try to drag it down, I am not getting the normal black + to allow me to drag it down the column. How do I get the "+" back?

2) When I open a excel spreadsheet from my email, it will appear on my taskbar and when I hover over the excel icon it shows a blank box, but I cannot click on it to open it. I have to close that box and double click the attachment in my email again to open it. Sometimes I repeat this process 3 times. Is there a way to prevent this from occuring?

Thank you for your help!

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
