Doble signo negativo en formulas

Que tal amigos.
desde hace tiempo tengo una duda que significa en algunas formulas el doble signo negativo. Ejemplo

=SUMAPRODUCTO(--(ESNUMERO(COINCIDIR(A1:A100,D1:D3,0))),--(B1:B100>=E1),--(B1:B100<=E2))

Expliquenme. Please.

Es para coaccionar valores Boolean a valores numéricos – o sea para convertir los «Falsos» a ceros y los «Ciertos» a unos. Existen tres maneras básicas de coaccionar:
  • cambiar signo dos veces (…--(A1>5)…)
  • multiplicar por uno (…(A1>5)*1…)
  • añadir cero (…(A1>5)+0…)

También funciona N(...). No estoy seguro si cabe dentro de «coaccionar» (coercion) o «convertir» (conversion), pero sin duda funciona.
