Do I really need to go back and mark years-old posts solved?

I saw the pop-up asking that I go back through old posts and mark the that are solved. When I click the link, I see that I have 19 pages of old posts. Do you really want me to go back over all of those one-by-one and mark them solved? I understand the motivation, but really...

PS: I took a look at a couple of old posts and immediately came across a problem. Many times, the "answer" (solution?) is not in any one post. It is often scattered across several. One reply may solve part of the problem, but leave another part unresolved. Then some time later, someone else may add a little refinement to another part of the solution. The system only allows me to mark one post as the "solution". I found several posts where it would be misleading (and a bit unfair) to designate any one post as The Solution.

There is no compulsion to do so but any that you do mark could help future searchers of the forum. It depends on how much you think that you have got out of the forum and how much you are prepared to put back in. ;)

In relation to your second post, if any post is marked as the solution then future searchers will know there is a solution in the thread. If it is not obvious in the post you mark, surely if they are really looking for a solution they will read through the whole thread to find it. So either mark the 'best' one or the first one that 'got the ball rolling' if the solution is spread over a number of posts.

Some people will mark the best/closest one as the solution, and then "like" the other ones that felt made a significant contribution to the solution.
Not saying that you have to do this, but it is one way to address the situation you describe.

...and apparently threads in this section have no solutions?

Hi @JenniferMurphy, no it is only in the Question forums that you can mark a post as a solution, basically the ones below.

OK, thanks.

I have gotten a lot out of this forum. It's one of the best that I am aware of and I have visited dozens. (y) So, your subtle guilt-tripping comment got through to me. I'll go back and mark as many as I can find time for. o_O

Sounds like a plan.

Thanks for considering this, @JenniferMurphy.

Just in case you don't know about it already, you can simply click on the following link to find your question threads as a list:

It is the "Your unsolved questions" link on the toolbar in every question forum.

:ROFLMAO: So that worked then!
No, seriously if you have asked a lot of questions as you have, it is a big task. So whatever you do would be appreciated. The most recent questions are probably the most relevant to mark as with some of the old ones the posted answers anyway may well have been superseded by functions or techniques that have appeared in subsequent Excel versions so the old answers not so much use to current searchers.
Then of course it is fairly simple to keep up with marking answers to any future questions you post.
