Dlookup problem

I am trying to get a date out of a table using DLookup. I have a start date and and end date. I get the start date from a text box in a form and the Dlookup gets the end date. The problem I am having is :

Dlookup("[End Date]","[tblPayrollDates]","[start Date]=" & forms!frmPerdiem![txtStartDate]) Gives me Null as the output.

Dlookup("[End Date]","[tblPayrollDates]","[start Date]=" & "'" &forms!frmPerdiem![txtStartDate] &"'") Gives me data type error in the criteria.

Any suggestions? The dates are stored as date/time in the table.

Thanks,
Greg C
