distinct count in pivot table

How does distinct count work in pivot table?

If I as summing distinct count of a customer

and I showing three years of data

for example

If customer A bought stuff in all three years will he show three times or will he show in first occurence in data
or will he show in first year of data regardless of occurrence in my file?

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
It’s a distinct count within whatever the relevant context is. So if A bought in all 3 years, he would appear as 1 in each year in that table.
