Not really Excel related, but I am considering purchasing a new desktop for home use.

Which of the following is the better spec

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E4500
2.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB Cache
1GB Memory
250GB Hard Drive

or

Intel Dual Core E2160 Processor
(1.8GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1024MB Cache)
2GB Memory
250GB Hard Drive

I would welcome your views

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
Hi Steve

If you're getting it with Vista you want maximum amount of memory possible (I would say 2Gb minimum). However, memory is dirt cheap these days, so you could easily pick some up after the computer purchase and install it yourself. Depending on what you intend to use it as, both processors can be overclocked if you want (altho this will also depend on the motherboard in each). I personally would go with the faster processor and then purchase some extra RAM fro it (another 2Gb for eg). You can probably get another 2Gb for $40 - but check you have the memory slots in the motherboard first!
