Delete duplicates only

I want to know how to delete duplicates only, but I want to keep the first record. For example:

Cat
Cat
Cat

I want the table/query to only keep 1 cat and delete the other records.

When I use the delete duplicates wizard it deletes all duplicates.

Hi,

To show no duplicates in your query, right click on the grey area just outside the area where you put your tables when the query is in design view. Select Properties and set Unique Records to 'True'.

If you need your data in this form in a table, change the query type to a make table query, and make a table out unique records.

Unique records will look for unique records from the source table, if you need unique records from just the data in the dynaset, use unique values='true' instead of unique
records.

I must have been half comotose when I wrote this cause it was chop full-o-mistakes. Of course, I guess someone would have to read it to know that...
