okay, so I just defined a few Names, and used the offset function so the range is variable.

here's the thing driving me NUTS, how come the names aren't showing up in the pick list up by the formula bar??????

WHAT am I doing wrong???

BTW, Hi, I posted a few times several years ago, but have been snooping ever since. I can usually find the answer I need, but not this time!

thanks!

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
Hi wendyps, welcome to the Board!

You're gonna hate this, but names based on formulas just don't appear in the Names drop-down list. That, as far as Excel is concerned, is for static names.

If I want to find out what they refer to, I go to Insert > Name > Define, select the name from the list, then click in the address bar. You can still list the names by creating a new sheet, pressing F3 and Alt+L. I often use that to audit the names, and clean out any with #REF errors. And you can insert the names references in formulas by using F3 and double-clicking the name. You just can't see them in the drop-down list...
