I have been using DAX to simple measures for use in pivot tables.

I am know trying to expand my DAX skills by reading Russo/Ferrari's purple DAX book.

Measures are written with the "New Measure" wizard and are visible and available for use when creating a pivot table.

Calculated Columns expressions are written in the window pain of the table being iterated and are available four use when creating a pivot table.

Here is the my dumb questions:
1) Where are DAX queries written?
2) Where is the query information (table) returned?

Thanks!

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
I may have gotten an answer. Are DAX queries written in DAX Studio? Can DAX Studio "Get Data" like Power Pivot or Power BI? I think yes, then SQL like table queries can be written using DAX and a table is returned.

Using DAX to write table queries is new to me, I had always used DAX for calculated columns or measures. Does this sound correct?

Do any of you use DAX to write queries for a job?
