hi Folks
I've got an accounting file and I've got it tidied up (nearly). Filtered out what I needed, converted the date column to date, numbers to decimals. Did the fill down and whole lot. However when I go to make a pivot table of it and group it, - I get the dreaded "cannot group by that selection". No, I have no blank dates, yes all the dates are formatted as dates (tried from PQ, then did formatting on them in Excel. They filter and read like a date but they will not group as a date.
Same thing with the numbers. I have converted them in PQ, they read as numbers. I have changed their type in Excel. None of those will work to get them to summarize in the pivot table.
I'm using Excel 2010. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi abalserv,
I don't see any M code so I guess....
At the last step should specify the type of columns.
Let me know if help.

I *have* changed the data type in the PQ for both the dates and the numbers....so what steps would I need to implement to "specify type of columns". Thanks :-)
