Date/time stamp of when data was entered

is there a way to date/time stamp when an entry is made? I tried to use =today() and =now() but when we close/reopen the file it changes to the current date/time which isnt what i need.

If you need more specific help, please provide more specific details (i.e. where entries are occurring, where timetamps should show up).

hmm ok, maybe im just not using the correct search keywords. i have found a few examples on the web via formula and VBA but the date/time keep refreshing and i dont want that. I'd really prefer to stick with formula is possible.

example of my data is: if B2 is changed then insert date/time stamp in C2 and need to be able to apply to entire column.

It involves creating a circular reference and using iteration.

Ah, ok. that link you sent gave me the terminology i needed to more efficiently research the topic and was able to nest together a formula based solution which so far is serving the needs. Thanks for getting me in the right direction!
