date time picker keeps resizing

I am using the Microsoft Date and Time Picker Control 6.0 (SP4) in my excel sheet

If I put it into design mode and resize the DT Picker control boxes, everything looks OK, but if I then save and reopen my spreadsheet then the DT Picker boxes default back to their original size (of about an inch on so square)

Any ideas how to make it stay at the size I set it to in design mode?

this works when copied and pasted to the ThisWorkbook area:

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Workbooks.Add
ActiveWindow.Close
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub

I don't know why it works though
