I am having the hardest time trying to get my pivot table to sort right. I downloaded data over a 7 year period and its sorted by months (January-2005 etc). The issue I am having is excel is putting it into this format January-2005 January- 2006 ......... February - 2005 February-2005. I need it to sort chronologically jan 2005, Feb 2005, March 2005...... Jan 2006, Feb 2006 etc. What do I have to do to get this fixed. I would rather do not have to do it manually each time I need this type of data.

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
Are month and year in separate columns?

In the Power Pivot window there is a Sort By Column feature. You will need a column as well with unique ID for each month/year to have the column sort against.

The dates are in a row. I guess I could change that. Any ideas on sorting in rows?

I am getting the feeling this is not actually a power pivot? I actually have no idea how to solve this outside powerpivot, and if indeed this is just normal pivot table stuff, this is not the best forum for the question.
