I have a column with over 5K date entries in the following date format: 01/01/2014. I noticed they were originally formatted as "General", so I right clicked and tried to change their format to "Date Format" YYYY/MM/DD and nothing changed. "Text to columns" didn't do anything either. I'm trying to get these dates in the right format in order to sort by year. Any help is greatly appreciated it.

When you did text to columns what date format did you select?

You need to select MDY as that is the format the data is in.
