I am almost done with this database, but I need help with a macro that will help me auto-populate 5 fields after a certain field is populated. I have I have part number data in a separate table tblPartNumbers and I have a form frmRipForm. There are 6 fields alike between these two unbound objects, as the rip form is bound to tblRipForm and the Part Numbers table is bound to nothing, and needs to stay that way. I want to push data based on a record when the the Part number field is populated, I know it will be an after update macro, but I am lost after that. The fields are description, tool number, cavities, cycle time, and customer. I have this data all stored on tblPartNumbers, and want to push these to the form, which has 6 identical fields, plus many more for data entry. Any help would be appreciated, as I am new to Access, and this is my first database.

This database is for a manufacturing company, and the part numbers table is just the data set, and is solely used to auto populate the data on the form, to save people precious time inputting the data everyday. I do not like that this data has to be stored in 2 different locations, but it seems like the only way, as there will be entries of 3 part numbers all the same but with different supporting data, like how many were made in the 8 hour shift, and the way I tried it, won't duplicate the record, but over-write it, which does not allow for reporting on efficiencies and the like.

I am sorry, I should have been clearer. When I was wrote Me.txtCustomer.Value = Dlookup..., the elipses was simply so that I didn't have to rewrite what I did earlier. But for clarification,

 Me.txtCustomer.Value = DLookup("[Customer]", "tblPartNumbers", "[ID]= '" & [Forms]![frmRipForm]![Customer].Value & "'")

is a what it should look like IF
1. Your input box is text.
2. The identifying field in the table is called "ID." This is a general assumption and you need to change ID to partID, or partNum...whatever the field name is of what you want to match from the input box.

That said, and after reading what Bob said, you really shouldn't be storing the same information more than once. I know you are new to Access, but I would catch up some reading on the subject of normalization and the potential problems that you can encounter if the data is not normalized. Thank you so much, is there anyway I can learn VBA? I might end up in this line of work, I really liked designing this one.

I understand Bob's pov, but I do not know any other way to teach the database that when I enter 51630000001 the form can go to the table without overwriting data(which was my last problem, and I had to split the two, and have some of the same data in 2 separate locations) and pull the customer Inteva, description LH Panel, Tool Number 5163-000, Cycle Time 34.00, and Cavity 1. All of this data needs to auto populate based on the part number that is entered, as someone will have to know all of the other information, and create more input errors. I could not think of another way to teach the database this. There will be multiple entries of the same part number, but with different stats like how many parts were made in the first hour, there are 8 of these boxes to fill out. I can email the database if someone wants to look at it. 19.7MB size file.

There will be multiple entries of the same part number

Is the part number the primary key? And if so, is this statement above saying that there exists in the table the same part number multiple times or are you just saying that there is multiple pieces of data associated with the part number?

As far as learning VBA, I actually picked up an Access 2007 book from my local Books-a-Million for about $12 the other day. I know a lot of the info, but wanted to have it as a resource.

I cannot think of any purely VBA teaching sources out there although a quick search on amazon would fins something. I personally find Wrox a good company that puts out good stuff.

And also, I am a visual person, so to give you advice on structure is hard for me, even if you write out every field in every table for me to look at. It's just one of those things...Anyways, 19.7 is a big file, but have you compacted and repaired lately? I bet you it is only a quarter of that size if you haven't.

For this to avoid errors, Employee is the primary key, and I have not repaired it. The sample I gave you with part number etc... There 721 parts that they make, and there will be similar entries with different dates, as these parts are made 7 days a week, and during 3 8 hour shifts. The form is to record data per part number/per shift/per day, and there are several reports that are designed to track efficiencies, and machine up time, and down time. I have done and assembled all of the formulas, that was easy compared to this vba coding stuff. also I got this error

Compile Error:
Method or Data Member not found for the Customer input code! I am looking into the help section of access to resolve this, as I might have misspelled something and they don't match!

I repaired it and is now 4.57 or so MB Cannot figure out the error though??? Lost. The spelling is correct. Maybe because there are multiple names the same, based on part number, as this customer has over 500 of the 721 parts, How would I fix this error????

None of the code modules work, they all give the same error, I don't know what to do to make them work.

The tblPartNumbers only has Customer, Part Number, Tool Number, Cycle Time, Cavities, and Description. When a Part Number is inputted I want the form to recognize based on the row of data that contains the corresponding data, like in my examples above, and auto populate those other fields in the form.
