Hi All, I have spent many hours learning power pivots and I am so excited about all the wonderful things I can do. I am however getting so frustrated because I can't seem to get past the most basic task of Data Refresh. I have spent hours on this and I can't seem to get it to work. I have even rebuilt my data connection. No matter what I do, I get the error message "We couldn't refresh the connection. Please go to existing connections and verify the connect to the file or server". The data source is on my local c drive. The test connection succeeds. I can preview the data fine through the wizard, I have no trouble initially loading the table. Everything works fine until refresh. Have even tried Refresh all. Can anyone help a very frustrated newbie to PowerPivots? I really don't know what to do. :( I am on excel 2013.

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Ok, maybe a silly question, but are you sure the data source name and location has not changed one bit?

Just in case anyone is interested, I solved the problem. My source file columns format was unspecified and power pivot changed a number column to text. In power pivot I changed the format to whole number. When power pivot was refreshing the data it wouldn't import as the column formats were different.
